Ohio Contests Proposed Kratom Illegalization

Happy Halloween!

Welcome to the Kratomaton Biweekly Update for October 23rd, 2018!

Fall is in motion - and so are we! Here's what's been happening.

Ohioan Kratom Supporters Unite To Contest State Kratom Criminalization

Earlier this month, the state of Ohio within the United States announced its intention to classify kratom as a Schedule I substance in a now unavailable proposal.

The proposal was issued by the Ohio Board of Pharmacy and mirrored many of the FDA's past assertions regarding the botanical substance:

  1. Has a high potential for abuse.

  2. Has no accepted medical use in treatment in this state.

  3. Lacks accepted safety for use in treatment under medical supervision.

  4. Poses a risk to the public health of the citizens in this state.

In response, the American Kratom Association created a petition to oppose the notion, citing "new and definitive scientific evidence that kratom is safe for consumer use." The petitionĀ garnered the signatures of over 20,000 Americans.

It's unclear whether or not the Ohio Board of Pharmacy intends to move forward with the proposal following the American kratom community's fervent objection. The board's original proposal PDF has since been deleted.

Nonetheless, Dave Herman, Chairman of theĀ American Kratom Association, stated that "the tide is turning."

Vendor Inventory Overhaul: Continued Roll-out

If you tuned into our last biweekly update, you might recall us mentioning the implementation of something we're calling theĀ vendor inventory overhaul.Ā

It's a new feature that allows ourĀ users to browse the online vendors that carry specificĀ kratom strains. In time, we'll also be expanding the feature to vendorĀ pages, so you'll be able to explore a vendor's inventory without leaving Kratomaton.

These features are still being rolled out, but so far, we've updated aboutĀ 30% of strain pages with the new layout.Ā Give it a look and be sure to tell us what you think!
