Nevada Passes Kratom Consumer Protection Act
On June 6th, Nevada passed their version of the Kratom Consumer Protection Act. The bill, which was originally drafted by the American Kratom Association (AKA) and the Botanical Education Alliance, promotes safer access to kratom products in Nevada by regulating how the plant can be sold and purchased.
Although the exact stipulations of the KCPA vary from state to state, Nevada’s version of the bill enforces the following:
Vendors cannot sell kratom products or anything containing kratom to buyers under the age of 18
Vendors cannot sell, market, or distribute kratom products containing added substances that alter the plant’s quality or strength
All kratom products must be clearly labeled with ingredients and directions for safe use
Nevada’s KCPA also enacts fines of up to $1000 for each violation of these terms.
Nevada is the fourth state to enact a version of the Kratom Consumer Protection Act. Earlier this year, Arizona, Georgia, and Utah also passed similar legislation.
