Welcome to the Kratomaton Biweekly Update for November 15th, 2019!
It’s Kratomaton’s second anniversary! Come celebrate our birthday with the latest kratom news and discounts.
Kratomaton’s 2nd Anniversary!
One year ago, we celebrated our first anniversary. Today, another year has passed — and what a year it’s been!
We started 2019 with a digital facelift. Hopefully, you still recognized us when it happened:
Then, about six months ago, we changed up our site layout to something more contemporary and less Web 2.0…
Since then, we’ve been tinkering away with Kratomaton’s core features and adding new ones, such as:
-
A new “Browse Strains” page
-
An overhauled Vendor Database layout
-
Vendor location pages that allow you to find kratom vendors in specific geographical regions (such as towns, cities, states/provinces)
Whether you’re new to the site or you’ve been with us since the beginning, we appreciate the collective support our audience has continued to show us. Here’s to another two years — or more!
State Representative Proposes Kratom Regulation with Ohio Kratom Bill
Over the last year, kratom’s status in the US state of Ohio has been heavily contested. In October 2018, Ohio’s Board of Pharmacy announced their intentions to ban the plant state-wide. However, the combined efforts of kratom advocates and the American Kratom Association put a stop to that ban in August 2019.
Now, another piece of Ohioan kratom legislation has been proposed by Ohio Republican State Representative Gary Scherer. However, unlike past efforts, the bill he’s sponsoring — House Bill 318 (HB318) — is seeking to regulate kratom, not ban it.
The bill, which was likely modeled after Utah’s Kratom Consumer Protection Act, currently contains the following clauses:
-
Businesses and establishments cannot produce, sell, or distribute kratom products until they’ve registered the product(s) with a director of agriculture
-
All kratom products cannot:
-
Be mixed or prepared with non-kratom substances that affect potency or pose a risk to consumers, poisonous ingredients, or controlled substances
-
Contain more than 2% 7-hydroxymitragynine (a highly potent kratom alkaloid)
-
Contain synthetic alkaloids
-
Exclude product labeling that outlines the amount of mitragynine and 7-hydroxymitragynine in the product
-
-
Kratom buyers must be 18 years of age or older
As you might expect, the bill also introduces penalties for anyone that breaches these rules with varying levels of severity.
