Welcome to the Kratomaton Biweekly Update for March 6th, 2019!
We’re sorry we missed you last month! We’ve been so busy working behind the scenes that our last update was in early February. Hopefully, we’ll have more to share with you in the coming weeks regarding some exciting changes coming to Kratomaton.
Until then, here’s the latest on what’s happening in the world of kratom!
FDA Commissioner Scott Gottlieb Resigns
On March 5th, 2019, Scott Gottlieb, the current United States Food and Drug Administration Commissioner, announced that he will be stepping down in April.
Taking office in May of 2017, Gottlieb’s staunch oppositional stance on kratom drew considerable ire from kratom users during his nearly two-year tenure. Perhaps most infamously, Gottlieb declared various kratom compounds to be “opioids” and released 36 kratom-related death reports, two notions that were largely deemed to be misleading by researchers and kratom advocates alike.
However, despite’s Gottlieb’s efforts to delegitimize kratom, the plant remains legal in most American states, and the United States federal government has yet to make a formal scheduling decision.
At this time, it’s unclear who will succeed Gottlieb as the next FDA Commissioner, or what their stance on kratom will be.
