This week, vocal kratom advocates have helped postpone legislation that would’ve threatened the sale of kratom in Point Pleasant, New Jersey. We’ve also got the latest kratom deals and discounts, so stay tuned for those!
? KRATOM IN THE NEWS
Point Pleasant, New Jersey Kratom Ban Postponed
In a previous Biweekly Update, we covered an upcoming kratom ban in the borough of Point Pleasant, New Jersey. If passed, the ban would outlaw the sale of kratom throughout the Point Pleasant area. However, during the legislation’s tabling on October 1st, 2019, the motion was rescinded.
After the council received testimonies on behalf of the American Kratom Association (AKA) and residents of the Point Pleasant area, support for the motion fell. In particular, the AKA drew attention to kratom’s current position as the subject of a disinformation campaign, a threat to the pharmaceutical industry, and the lack of deaths associated with its use. Meanwhile, kratom users in Point Pleasant and abroad showed their support by describing the plant as an “aid.”
In response, the law’s author, Republican Councilman Kanitra, withdrew the motion. While the Point Pleasant council could reconsider and vote upon the ban in the future, some council members voiced a preference for regulation over prohibition.
