? KRATOM IN THE NEWS
American Researchers Receive $3.5 Million Grant To Fund Kratom Research
The National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) has provided a research team at the University of Florida College of Pharmacy with a $3.5 million grant to further their studies on kratom and its role in the treatment of opioid abuse and addiction.
The team includes established kratom researcher Chris McCurdy, Ph.D. – who appeared in Chris Bell’s kratom documentary, A Leaf of Faith – as well as Lance McMahon, Ph.D., Bonnie Avery, Ph.D., Jay McLaughlin, Ph.D., and others. NIDA’s funding will allow the researchers to expand their team and infrastructure beyond its current scope.
According to this article, the next phases of the team’s research will revolve around learning more about kratom’s diverse range of alkaloids, their effects on brain receptors, and the possibility of using kratom to reduce symptoms of opioid withdrawal.
