France Bans Kratom Possession and Purchase

On January 1st, France added kratom and its compounds to a list of prohibited psychotropic substances, effectively banning the sale, purchase, and possession of the plant throughout France.

France’s ANSM (National Medicines Safety Agency) stated that the ban decision stemmed from “the serious health risks” associated with the plant.
Prior to this newly-implemented ban, kratom was fully legal in France. Citizens were able to buy, use, and sell the plant without encountering legal consequences.
