American Kratom Association Chairman Steps Down

With the COVID-19 shutdown in full effect in many countries and legislative meetings postponed, the last few weeks have been largely uneventful in the kratom world. Still, we’ve got a handful of the latest kratom news, discounts, and more — so read on to discover what’s been happening!

American Kratom Association Chairman Steps Down, Prompting Leadership Change

On April 17th, 2020, the American Kratom Association — a pro-kratom advocacy organization — formally announced that their Chairman, Dave Herman, had voluntarily resigned.

Herman had led the organization since 2016 but has decided to step down for personal reasons. “The combination of age (I will shortly be 73) and being self-quarantined for well over a month because of the Coronavirus has convinced me it is time to move on,” Herman said.

In his absence, the AKA has named former Arizona Republican Congressman Matt Salmon as their new chairman. “I am honored to accept the leadership baton for the AKA from Dave Herman who has ably led the extraordinarily successful battle to keep kratom legal as the Chairman for the past several years,” said Salmon. “Much progress has been made in advancing the science and the understanding of public policy makers on the truth about kratom, and I am ready to continue that effort going forward.”
